While performing a complex examination of 117 school age children, it was noted that a severe form of asthma and, respectively, more severe attacks of asthma were marked in patients with a slow type of acetylation. The administration of desobstructive standard therapy in conformity with the international consensus GINA 2004 revealed a tendency towards more rapid rates of desobstruction on the third day of hospitalization in patients with a rapid type of acetylation compared with patients with a low activity of N-acetyltransferase. The application of systemic corticosteroids in starting desobstructive therapy results in a reduction of an attributive risk by 23% and relative risks by 53% of the severity of the clinical manifestations of bronchoobstruction with due regard for the number of patients that must be treated in order to obtain a positive result – 4.3. Simultaneously, the risk of the need of using glucocorticosteroid agents in starting therapy of an asthma attack in children with a slow type of acetylation made up: RR=1.5(95%CI:2.9-9.01) and the ratio of chances constituted 10.5(95%CI:8.6-127.9).
