dc.description.abstract | Several hormonal changes and increased demand for iodine during pregnancy may result, especially in iodine deficient countries, in increase of thyroid volume. Pregnancy acts a revelator of iodine restriction, and gestation results in a state of relative iodine deficiency. This condition has repercussions for both mother and foetus. Goiters formed during gestation only partially revent to normal after parturition. The incidence of complications during pregnancy and delivery is about 4 times more frequent in women with endemic goiter than in women without goiter. | ru_RU |
