Abstract: The World Health Organization has designated antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as one of the top 10 public health threats facing the global community, which requires an urgent and multipronged response. Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs have been implemented in many health care settings worldwide to curtail inappropriate and excessive antibiotic prescribing, particularly for broad-spectrum antibiotics. The years leading up to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic were marked by important victories in the battle against AMR. In late 2019 the world changed, as did the landscape for addressing the global threat of AMR.
