Abstract: Abstract. Helmholtz is one of the most remarkable scientists of the nineteenth century. Helmholtz was an adherent of the interdisciplinary scientific approach and his contribution to physics (law of conservation of energy, Helmholtz free energy, Gibbs-Helmholtz equation, theory of vortex motion in hydrodynamics, equation of Helmholtz waves) and medicine (ophthalmoscope, visual perception, nerve actions, muscle contraction, speech and voice tone, and sound transmission) has become invaluable.
